I'm extremely new to photography and I have a lot to learn. I bought my Nikon D40 with the intent of getting better pictures of my kids playing organized sports. I quickly learned how powerful my camera was and how much I enjoyed being behind it capturing images. I came here for inspiration and I hope to evolve into a pretty decent portrait photographer.

Audrey

Sun Nov 8, 2009, 4:44 AM
This past Friday night, I had the pleasure of shooting a beautiful and aspiring model named Audrey. Since she didn't have very many pics in her port, she volunteered to help me get some hours under my belt with my gear in exchange for some. We shot for about 3.5 hours (including outfit changes) and I ended up with about 360 proofs when it was all over. Since I'm new to the hobby and have two pre-teens that keep me on the "brink of broke", I didn't use any professional lighting and relied on two floor lamps with dimming capabilities.

I have to admit that I'm still shocked at how well the shoot went and how composed I remained through the entire thing. I found the most challenging part to be finding the correct ISO/Shutter settings and making these changes on the fly without leaving the model to sit, losing interest from boredom. For anyone that believes photography is just point and click, think again. I have so much respect for those putting in work behind the lens and as I grow, my respect will continue to extend.

I'll post pics from the shoot in about a week after we decide which ones will be cleaned up. I'd like to thank all of the dA artists that have inspired me (I used a few of your poses). Without the inspiration, I don't really think I'd have tried shooting a human subject this soon into my journey. Your pictures made it easy for me to give it a try.

God Bless!

I am me, whether you like it or not. . .
I can be nothing but me, that's all I know how to be.

Just me.
In my own skin --- and for once --- comfortable in it.
